Next Steps includes an Introduction to Customised Employment
This introductory workshop will provide you with practical strategies and insights into Customised Employment – a strengths-based approach that tailors job opportunities to match an individual’s skills, interests, and support needs.
Learn how the Discovery phase can be a powerful tool in identifying your young person’s unique contributions and how you can take active steps as a family to create employment pathways.
The session will also explore the role of social networks, community connections, and building a Circle of Support to ensure long-term success.
Creating a home of their own, customised employment, creating a vision for the good life and more – while connecting with other families on a similar journey.

Presenters
Amy Sandiford
Amy Sandiford is a passionate advocate for meaningful employment pathways, leading transformational initiatives that embed Customised Employment into the heart of business, government, and community practice.
As the Project Lead of the LEAP Initiative in Western Australia, Amy has worked across metro and regional areas to build capacity within families, support networks, and employers—ensuring people with disability aren’t just included in the workforce, but valued within it.
With a strong background in human-centred design, Amy champions employment discovery that aligns with individual strengths, while facilitating job carving and custom role creation with companies such as Water Corporation, RAC, Synergy, Swick Mining, St John Ambulance, ECU, and Mosaic.
Her approach is systems-focused yet deeply personal—balancing strategic partnerships with on-the-ground mentoring and peer-based learning models. She has designed workshops, developed projects and shared evidence-backed case studies that challenge assumptions and inspire action.
Magdalena Garcia Flynn – Mags is a project worker at Valued Lives, specialising in Individualised Living Arrangements (ILA).
The ILA Project supported over 350 people and families to create living arrangements that reflect their goals—beyond traditional group homes.
With familial lived experience, practical tools, and a person-centred approach, Mags empowers families to build confidence and take real steps toward creating a home of their own.
