Preparing for planning with the NDIS

The NDIS is coming to WA from July 1 2014. We are supporting people to prepare to plan!

During May, Bronia Holyoak from Valued Lives and Samantha Jenkinson; a seasoned disability advocate represented a collaboration of WA disability groups to put on a week of workshops on the NDIS trial in the Perth Hills area. The supporting groups were People with Disability WA, Rise Network, Carers WA, NDSWA, Ethnic Disability Advocacy Centre and Developmental Disability WA.

The workshops were designed for people with disabilities, families and Carers across the Perth Hills Trial site area. One large information seminar was held in Midland with over 60 people attending.

Marita Walker, State Manager NDIA shared for the first time; the suburbs and phase in dates for the transition for people into the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Perth Hills.

Robyn Massey, Executive Director Disability Reform provided information about the process of moving from Disability Services Commission’s My Way to the NDIA. The other workshops had a focus on preparing for planning in the NDIS.

It is important that you really think about what it is that you want to achieve prior to your appointment with an NDIA Planning and Support Coordinator. Valued Lives can assist you with this through connection with our Peer-to-Peer Networks .
